Santa's Elves are Hard at Work!

No matter what, I can't get the Christmas spirit out of the store. John and Kristi have been teaming up with the Roses and Blooms Elves to create tons of new holiday and winter themed arrangements. Below is just the latest to come out of the New York florist workshop!

Santas DutZ
Santa's DutZ is an elven-made boxwood tree in a mouth-blown DutZ conic vase. The vase may come from Holland but the inspiration for the arrangement is 100% from the North Pole! To bring more cheer to these New York flowers we add some mini pine cones, round ornaments, and some fancier ornaments to finish off the look. Just look at how excited Frosty and Santa are to be a part of this wonderful holiday arrangement! And it's only $145...including delivery to Manhattan! What a great last-minute gift idea.

For the holidays, we love to create more than just flowers New York. Taking lowly greens and creating something extraordinary like our designers have teamed up to do above is what distinguishes our designers from all the rest. That is why we pride ourselves on being a florist New York...we love to be different and create things that touch people. If you are ever in search for inspiration or just want to chat about your love of flowers and other pretty things, come on by the store at 599 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10022 or give our Elvish designers a call at (212) 758 7673.

Gift Ideas

Is it just me or can it be the hardest thing in the world to find the right gift for everyone on your list? Some people are techies and love the newest gadget, some are fashionistas and the latest look will be just right. My list has many people who are nature-lovers. For them, I always try and create something myself as the New York florist that I know they will appreciate. And this year, I'm going to share my secret with you so you can do the same for those on your list.

Winter Wonderland
This bunch of cuties is a great gift for an apartment-dweller who will appreciate New York flowers. I like to stick to the less is more philosophy and just focus on quality to enhance the gift. I take 3 of the most perfect green hydrangea and place each on in a mouth-blown DutZ vase. Then I add some winter-themed twigs or branches to fill out the look. To bring it all together, I use one of the newest DutZ plates, made of glass and all hand-made in Europe as a holder for the three cuties. All together, I think this is a great gift of flowers New York. I love how it has flowers, but doesn't necessarily make the gift all about a typical arrangement. Instead, this allows me to express myself as a florist New York. Being a florist isn't only about the flowers, it's about finding new ways to create designs that touch people somehow. It really is an art form and there are many in New York who are amazing at it. Some days, I love to just walk through the city and peek in the windows and see all the inspiration that is flowing throughout the city, whether it comes from florist, fashion designers, artists, chefs, and so many others.

You can order this Winter Wonderland gift idea for anyone on your list for only $125 at our website (including Manhattan delivery, because that's just fair). You can also drop by the store at 599 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10022 or give us a call at (212) 758 7673.

PS If you're looking for what to get me for Christmas, I'll gladly accept what I consider the most beautiful new car for 2013, the Morgan EvaGT. See a picture here for yourself.

Winter Wonderland

Well by my account we're now in a winter wonderland. The tree at Rockefeller Center is lit, there's snow on the ground, and the chills at night are enough to bring shivers to the Vikings. What this means for your florist New York is that it's time to bring out a hearty arrangement that is made to last, even with this cold.

Winter Wonderland

This arrangement from the New York florist is bound to do the trick. Pine cones, white pine needles, some glittery goodies, and just a few freesia to bring it to life. Our usual New York flowers aren't enough to be placed out in front of a porch when a customer is at work and still be healthy when they come home at night. This, however, is sure to be looking just as pretty when they get home so they can have flowers New York to bring winter's spirit indoors. Come on and visit us at 599 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10022, we'll do our best to keep you warm with inspiration for creating your own arrangements with our enormous selection of farm-fresh flowers or let our designers create something for you. We can't wait to see you!

Poinsettias: Every Kind, Every Style...Always Amazing!

In case you haven't gotten it yet, I love the holidays. And at Roses and Blooms, we embrace the holidays full force as soon as we can. The colors, the music, the glitters...it's all spectacular! The first new items we get at the New York florist every year for the holidays are a large truck of poinsettia plants. Large ones, small ones, red ones, white ones...we get all of them so we can ensure that all of our customers get exactly the holiday decorating they need. We love our New York flowers, but that doesn't mean we don't also love our plants. Throughout the year, phalaenopsis orchids are one of our best sellers with their understated elegance, but with the holidays...it's the season of the poinsettia!

White Poinsettia in Ceramic Pot
Large White Poinsettia with Decorations
Extra Large White Poinsettia with Ornamental Decoration

Here you can see that we take the seemingly plain white poinsettia plant and jazz it up in 3 different ways, for 3 different price points. For $50, we have a standard sized poinsettia in a ceramic pot with a few ornaments to give it that holiday sparkle. Then, for $85, we have a large white poinsettia plant in a wicker basket with a more ornate ornament finish. Finally, for $125, we have an extra large white poinsettia in a glass container filled with ornaments to create a modern look that never goes out of style. All of these are quality options from the florist New York trusts with its holiday decor needs year after year.

Come see our full poinsettia garden at Roses and Blooms: 599 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10022 or give our designers a call at (212) 758 7673 to create a holiday decorum that matches your needs. We will do everything possible to ensure you are ecstatic with your poinsettia from your specialist for flowers New York...as well as plants!

Thanksgiving Centerpiece for Our Home

So Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays for the year. It has a purity to it that reminds me of Christmas in Holland. It isn't all about presents, it isn't all about who has the brightest lights on the block...it's all about sitting down with family & friends and enjoying a wonderful meal together and giving thanks.

Now just because I love cooking and I have what I hope to be an amazing meal planned, doesn't mean that I don't get to abandon my task as the New York florist. Yes, I love to see a beautiful centerpiece of New York flowers on my Thanksgiving Day table. This is what will be adorning my table this year, on my actually dining room table. I'm sure that this would look great on your table as well!

Thanksgiving Celebration Centerpiece

Now the table is going to look even better with the turkey, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, squash, carrots, cranberry sauce, asparagus, baked apples, and whatever else we are able to whip up for Thanksgiving...but it looks pretty elegant on its own don't you think? By the way, that is our actual menu for Thanksgiving, hope we have enough food!

I love to keep dinner table centerpieces low so that they don't impede conversation. There is nothing worse than going to a dinner party and having to constantly zig and zag around a tall centerpiece while trying to hold conversation with those across from you. There is no reason to go high for a dinner table, a low design can look just as beautiful while still being functional.

If you haven't gotten your flower situation organized yet, Roses and Blooms is still open! We are the florist New York has trusted for 30 years of Thanksgiving Day arrangements and we are proud to continue designing these flowers New York. Visit the store at 599 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10022 or give the store a call at (212) 758 7673 as soon as possible to make sure we can get you the perfect flowers to complement you Thanksgiving before it's too late!!!

Glittering Golds

Who doesn't love gold? Whether you wear it, decorate with it, invest in it, or even use it as a conductor, gold is on everyone's mind when it comes to something exclusive and beautiful. We've gotten the memo. And that is why we are very proud to carry the full line of Ecri gold-finished ceramics at Roses and Blooms, the New York florist. Here's an example of some of the vases we are displaying today at 599 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10022.

Gold Hand-Made Ecri Ceramics directly to you from Holland
What makes Ecri so special is the fact that each piece is hand-made on the potter's wheel by artisans in the Netherlands. They take the time to hand mold the clay, shape it, and finish it with a range of finishes from typical ceramic colors to lusters such as platinum, gold, and ruby. We love to use Ecri as a interior design piece on its own, or we use the larger pieces to hold orchids and create a truly masterful piece. Items such as Ecri help to make us more than just a florist New York. It takes us beyond just New York flowers. It allows us to enter your home as full home decor designers, and that is a position we are proud to be in. You can find more from Ecri and other exclusive European designs from our partners at EurDecor. Or just give the source for flowers New York a call at (212) 758 7673.

Ready for a Winter Wonderland?

Like it or not, winter is coming. I felt it when I pulled the covers off this morning...it was COLD! Just yesterday, they cut down the tree for Rockefeller Center, a proud New Jersey specimen! Thanksgiving is about a week away. Crazy how time keeps on moving on.

Today, we have a wonderful arrangement from your New York Florist designed to embrace the essence of winter and pay homage to the beauty that still exists despite the cold.

Preserved Winter Vase in Ecri Ceramic

This winter arrangement has a very unique benefit to the average vase. Not only is it housed in a glossy white with gold Ecri hand-made ceramic vase, but this arrangement will look just this way in 2 years time. Let me repeat that...it will still be just as beautiful without any watering, pruning, or any other maintenance in TWO YEARS!

To make this masterpiece, we use preserved flowers New York. Not dried, not fake, preserved. These are real flowers that undergo a 100% natural process and are then in a preserved state for 2 years time...after which they begin to dry out. In this arrangement, we use preserved hydrangea and gardenia. Then we use natural tree branches to enhance the look, much like looking at a forest in the colds of winter. The arrangement is placed in a Ecri ceramic vase. This vase is hand-made on the potter's wheel by artisans in the Netherlands and finished with a REAL GOLD finishing. Ecri vases and DutZ are available from our partner, EurDecor.

What do you think of these New York flowers? Do you feel the chills of winter when you see it? To see this and many more exclusive arrangements from the preferred florist New York, visit Roses and Blooms at 599 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10022 or feel free to give our designers a call at (212) 758 7673.

More Than Just Flowers

Okay let's be honest here, flowers are beautiful. They make us happy, they smell great, and they remind us to appreciate what we have in life. At Roses and Blooms, we've been designing New York flowers and arrangements for over 30 years. However, we recently decided to expand and begin offering our customers other gift ideas as well. Why you may ask? Because we believe that when you are sitting still, you are actually moving backwards. We are always trying new things, taking risks, and making ourselves better for our customers as the preferred florist New York

So, now that I'm done with my little speech, here comes our latest addition to the Roses and Blooms store at 599 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10022.

Our new "small garden area"
So in addition to our Ecri and DutZ accessory collections (which we will highlight at a future time for you) we also have our new "small garden area." This area has ideas to bring a modern garden into every New York home. Right now we are highlighting out DutZ garden balls, which add a splash of color indoors or out and our various echeveria plants which are planted in differing soils, sands, and rocks to create multiple looks to fit any interior. We are excited to bring this garden idea to our store in Midtown Manhattan and are always looking for new ideas. Feel free to share any garden ideas that you think would look great in our small garden area and we will try and incorporate those ideas in our next designs. We always welcome ideas from our customers and that is a major reason for us continually remaining a favorite New York florist! Give us a call at (212) 758 7673 with any comments or to place an order today!

Sandy Hits Hard, Roses and Blooms Prevails

So as I'm sure you all know by now, there was a hurricane in the Tri-State area this week. Her name was Sandy, and she meant business. I just got back from doing our outstanding deliveries throughout Manhattan and was shocked to see traffic lights out from 42nd Street down. Doing a delivery all the way down at Reid Street was crazy, it is just chaos right now with cars driving every which way and all the buildings are pitch black. An eerie sight.

We were forced to close Roses and Blooms yesterday due to the storm but were able to re-open the doors today for all the fans of our New York flowers. We are officially open for business and are offering a Hurricane Special to help cheer up anyone who may have been affected by the storm. Check out our facebook page for more information on how to take advantage of this limited time special.

Now we know we are all of your favorite New York florist and we may spend most of our days at the 599 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10022 address for Roses and Blooms, but we do go home occasionally. I wanted to share some pictures of what Sandy did to our neighborhood to help memorialize this historic storm. I took all these pictures myself while driving around yesterday to survey the damage.

A tree on the power lines. Millions without power.

Another huge tree just ripped up. Sandy seemed to take the larger trees, not the small ones.

Just wow.

Tree on the road and the power lines. It's going to be a long time to recover.

This farm was just destroyed by the wind. And power lines were all over the road...time to turn back!

Huge Blue Spruces just ripped up and tossed like they were nothing at all.

This one just snapped in half

Trees ripped out of the ground, roots and all

Hazards were everyone over the roads. No wonder we still don't have power at home!

Just look how Sandy tossed that trampoline

Our thoughts and prayers go out to anyone who was affected by the wrath of Sandy and as the florist New York has trusted for over 25 years, we will be here to help in the recovery in any ways we can. If there is anything we can do, please call Roses and Blooms at (212) 758 7673 visit us at www.rosesandblooms.com or visit us at 599 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10022. We are always standing by with your flowers New York

Corporations Can be Beautiful Too!

Imagine a typical office in your mind. What do you see? Desks and cubicles with drones typing away at keyboards? Executives in corner offices practicing their putting skills and putting on conference calls? A dark, dreary place where the only source of joy and laughter seems to be the magical water cooler?

Well those days are over! And yes, we at Roses and Blooms are to blame.

Tall, Lobby Style
Please join us in welcoming our newest addition to our corporate arrangement lineup. We have this in both a tall, lobby style vase as well as a shorter, desk-style one. Now not only is this an absolutely gorgeous vase that blends elegance with simplicity, it also has a very practical role.

Shorter, Desk Appropriate Style

For anyone who has ever bought a hydrangea before, this is a flower that is known for drooping and looking old very quickly. Ours, from our Dutch hydrangea breeders at Barthels, are a very different story. Instead of drooping, they simply dry up. At a quick glance, you aren't even able to tell that they have dried, they just keep their shape and continue looking great far beyond the normal lifespan of a hydrangea.

So what makes these hydrangea so different (other than their GORGEOUS colors of course)? Instead of being grown quickly and cheaply, these are designed to last. Each stem takes at least a year to produce. They grow slowly so they gain strength and nourishment. During that time, they also become enormous. Just look at the size of those heads!

At this time, we have these exclusive hydrangea available in pink, green, and hot pink. More colors will be coming in the future and we will be ready to use them to their fullest as well.

Before long, you can expect to see vases with these unique hydrangea in offices throughout New York. We will help the workers of the Big Apple expand beyond their cubes and see that beauty that nature has provided. If you think that your office could benefit from designs such as this on a weekly basis, bi-weekly or even for special events, please be sure to give Roses and Blooms a call at (212) 758 7673 and we will be happy to assist in creating beautiful designs at the appropriate budget for your company. We also do holiday decorating...we know it is early but it's never too early to start planning for the perfect holiday decor!

To see this New York florist in action visit our store at 599 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10022 or check out our full online collection of New York flowers at www.rosesandblooms.com. We are here to be your florist New York and we will work tirelessly to bring you the very best in flowers New York

Chills of Fall Hit this New York Florist

This morning I had to admit defeat. The warm summer months are over. The days or lounging about it shorts and short sleeves are just a fleeting memory. I actually had to go into my closet, dig to the very bottom, and find my SWEATERS! Now that I am sitting in my office, I can say that I'm getting excited for the Autumn weather. Pumpkins, mums, butternut squash, and of course all those beautiful fall colors. Reds, oranges, yellows, browns...that sure put a smile on my face. So, I decided to create a new design to bring that excitement to all of you, and I call it the Colors of Fall

Here's our baby! This arrangement combines everything I was looking for in a perfect autumn piece. The colors come primarily from the "Charlie Brown" cymbidium orchids, the bronze callas and the orange ranunculus. To remind us that all life is not leaving us as the evenings cool down, I also included some green and white hydrangea as a base to add a fresh look. Placing everything in an orange DutZ mouth-blown conic really finishes off the look. It's such a shame that so many florists are afraid to use colored glass because it really finishes off the look. And take it from me, there are no better colors in glass than from DutZ, the Dutch glass masters. This is an exciting piece and is available on our website for just $138! What a deal for a hand-made arrangement in a hand-made vase. What do you think of the Colors of Fall? Let us know and share your design ideas as well!

As always, we'd love for you to come and visit Roses and Blooms at 599 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10022 to see our designers in action. When you think New York florist, remember that Roses and Blooms is the premier collector of flowers, plants, orchids, vases, accessories, and gifts worthy to be named THE florist New York. We are proud to be the preferred destination for New York flowers and will always do whatever it takes to ensure you leave our store happy and ready to tell all of your friends!

Dendrobium: To Infinity & Beyond

Our Dendrobium Orchid in Ecri Ceramic Pot

Hello again everyone. First of all, I apologize for the photography on our beautiful dendrobium but all I had with me was a camera phone and I am SO excited about this new item that I just had to share it immediately. It isn't even on our website yet, so be sure to call Roses and Blooms at 212 758 7673 if you are interested! Should be on the website very soon too!

Roses and Blooms has long been known for being a purveyor of phalaenopsis orchids. Just look at how many we put in our window on a daily basis! And don't get me wrong, I love the classy touch of the phalaenopsis, but I felt it was time to bring a fresh option in as well. And thus, arrived my new favorite...the dendrobium. Just look how it stretches up and and up and up. It goes to INFINITY and even beyond!

Phalaenopsis Orchids
Do yourself a favor and scroll back up to look at it. It's HUGE! This is not an orchid to take up a small corner of a desk. It is a sight that is meant to be seen. What's really neat is that dendrobium orchids are tree parasites. They have the large collection of leaves at their base to collect water so they can survive. They are not located in the ground in nature. That means don't over water them when they are in your home. There is no faster way to kill a beautiful orchid (same goes for phalaenopsis).

Roses and Blooms Tip of the Day: We often just place a few ice cubes in the pot once or twice a week and let them melt...that keeps you from getting overzealous and pouring too much water in and killing the orchids. They can easily last 6 months to a year with proper care and will grow new buds!

I love the color of this dendrobium. There are thousands of species of these orchids, with some looking more reed-like, some looking like classic orchids, and others being most appropriate for use as cut flowers. Ours leans towards the reed-like species, with its height and flower spread being its main attraction point. We have planted it in a brown Ecri ceramic pot to make the item even greater. This pot was hand-made by our Dutch friends who craft all of our Ecri ceramics. They recently had one artist retire, so there are now only 3 people in the world who can produce ceramics like Ecri does.

When you get a chance, take a walk over to Roses and Blooms at 599 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10022 to see our orchid garden in action. We will be displaying both the phalaenopsis and the dendrobium for the time being. We plant some in DutZ pots, some in Ecri ceramics, and other in Ecri luster collection pots to make the ultimate gift. When you think New York florist, remember that Roses and Blooms is the premier collector of flowers, plants, orchids, vases, accessories, and gifts worthy to be named THE florist in New York. We are proud to be the preferred destination for New York flowers and will always do whatever it takes to ensure you leave our store happy and ready to come again.

Using All My Senses: Results of a Parisian Trip

Fragrance With Fragrance
Yves Piaget in Our Fragrance with Fragrance Vase

Recently I returned to New York from a trip to one of my favorite cities in the world, Paris. Not that I needed an excuse to experience all I could from Parisian culture, but I actually made sure to visit the city to visit my old friends, the rose breeders at Meilland. The real reason for my visit was to see the new group of Yves Piaget roses that Meilland has been breeding in recent years.

Now there is a real reason to be excited about a modernized Yves Piaget, this is a rose with a royal history. Yves Piaget was first bred and made popular in the 1500's and 1600's in France. It was embraced by the French because of its unique beauty, its classical shape, and most of all...its FRAGRANCE! We're all supposed to stop and smell the roses every once in a while, but with an aroma as alluring and present as Yves Piaget, you can't help but stop and smell them every time you come within a city block. Due to this amazing fragrance, Yves Piaget was originally used by the French to create royal perfumes. It is still an important ingredient in natural perfumes to this day. That's pretty inspiring for a rose that's over 500 years old!

The history is impressive, but also begs the question, why did Meilland have to re-create this rose? The reason is a strain of viruses that nearly wiped out the entire population. Over generations, the breeders were able to select for a strain of Yves Piaget that was able to repel these viruses, and thus the most fragrant of roses was reborn. Meilland are still one of the only sources for Yves Piaget, and they are the only source for roses of the quality level Roses and Blooms demands. The expectations for this rose are a 4-5 day vase life...fragrant roses have much shorter lifespans than traditional commercial roses. Yves Piaget remains a rare rose, it is not one you are likely to come by at the corner grocery store. However, if you are looking for that royal touch and for a natural way to make an entire home smell like a fresh, French garden in...there are no alternatives! So now as I'm back in our Manahttan location, I can't help but take a break from writing and head down to smell the roses...my beautiful Yves Piaget.

For other arrangements with Yves Piaget, see Elegance with Fragrance, Fragrant Garden Roses with Lavenders, Fragrant Garden Roses in Ecri Gold Vase, and A True Love. As always, feel free to browse our entire selection at Roses and Blooms and visit us at 599 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10022. Also feel free to call us at (212) 758 7673 to speak with a member of our design team. We are proud to be consistently chosen as a top-ranked New York florist, having been local for over 30 years. When you need New York flowers, we will always be there for you.

Eternal Love?

Do you believe in everlasting love? I do and that's why I've gone against the industry norms and have embraced our new everlasting roses collection. Everlasting roses? Doesn't that mean that customers won't be in to buy new flowers in a few weeks? The answer is yes. But that doesn't scare me away. True, the everlasting roses are real roses, they are not your cheap looking and feeling silk flowers from the 80s. These are real roses preserved with an exclusive process of dehydrating and waxing...guaranteed to last at least 2 years. The question must remain, why sell these? I know that these everlasting roses are so beautiful, so special, that they will continue driving in business. They are unique, something to set us apart from the average florist in New York. When we stop innovating, we start falling behind. To make these ever more special, instead of placing the roses in a cheap Chinese vase, I arrange them in a Ecri ceramic vase. This vase is made by hand in Holland and is finished with REAL GOLD! Now you see what I'm saying, very special indeed.

So far the everlasting experiment has been a huge success. Customers are coming back. They are buying one for their mom, one for their wife, one for their secretary and one for themselves. They see the cost as a long-term investment rather than a purchase on a whim. Roses and Blooms will continue experimenting with the everlasting roses in different styles and containers and may even expand our everlasting options to other flowers as well. I will definitely keep you all posted, let me know what you think.
